How to Care for Your Hanging Baskets
Hanging baskets are a beautiful addition to any home garden! They add a nice pop of color and fill a space wonderfully. With hanging baskets available at our Spring Market, we thought it would be a perfect time to share how to best care for your hanging baskets.
Follow these 3 tips to keep your hanging baskets healthy all summer:
- Water Often: When plants are in containers, they typically need to be watered more often than those in the ground. Dip your finger 1 inch into the soil of your hanging basket, if it is dry, it’s time to water. Expect to water at least once per day and maybe even twice on hot summer days. Keep an eye to make sure water drains from the basket as you water.
- Fertilize: With frequent watering, nutrients will flow through the basket quickly. Be sure to feed and fertilize your plants as needed. Follow directions on the food or fertilizer of your choice.
- Trim as Needed: Don’t be afraid to cut back stems that are looking disheveled and remove dead buds by pinching them off where they meet the stem. This will help the plant to produce denser, new growth for a full blooming basket.
We hope to see you this weekend at our Spring Market!
